Wendy Greene is a Professor of Law and Director of the Center for Law, Policy, and Social Action at Drexel University's Kline School of Law, internationally recognized for combating race-based natural hair discrimination through legal advocacy and policy reform.
Her research centers on civil rights law and anti-discrimination policy, specifically addressing how natural hair discrimination violates human rights to freedom of expression and racial equality. She highlights critical health disparities, noting chemical straighteners used to conform to Eurocentric beauty standards increase uterine cancer risks for Black women and girls, framing hair autonomy as consequential for quality of life and longevity.
Professor Greene's scholarly contributions include the 2022 book "Critical Race Judgments," which reinterprets U.S. court opinions through critical race theory to expose systemic biases in legal frameworks governing race.
As legal architect of the federal C.R.O.W.N. Act and advisor for over 20 state/municipal laws, she serves as an expert witness in civil rights cases challenging discriminatory grooming policies. Her advocacy has been covered by major media including BBC, New York Times, and Washington Post.
She leads the Center for Law, Policy, and Social Action, driving community-engaged initiatives that bridge legal scholarship with grassroots activism to advance social justice through legislative reform and public education.
