Wendy DesChene is Professor in the Department of Art & Art History at Auburn University. A Métis Nation artist, she creates socially engaged works exploring environmental issues and indigenous identity. Her practice spans painting, murals, installation, and unauthorized public interventions.
Research and creative work focuses on:
- Environmental art collaborations (PlantBot Genetics)
- Indigenous reclamation and cultural investigation
- Institutional critique through unauthorized artworks
- Community-engaged projects
Awards include Alabama State Arts Fellowship, Andy Warhol Foundation funding, Canada Council grants, and N.E.A. support. She has exhibited internationally at venues including Carnegie Museum of Art and Fuller Craft Museum, with residencies worldwide.
