Wendy Ainsworth is a Senior Lecturer in Midwifery at the University of Greenwich's School of Health Sciences within the Faculty of Education, Health and Human Sciences. She has held this position since 2015.
Education: RM, RGN, BSc Hons, PGCHE (Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education), MSc.
Teaching & Research Interests: Focuses on critical care, early pregnancy complications, simulated emergency management, clinical ethics, decision-making processes, compassionate care, mentorship roles in midwifery assessment, and expanding midwifery practice scopes. Credentials include Neonatal Newborn Examiner, PGD Infection Control, and Independent Nurse Prescriber qualifications.
Academic Roles: Course leader for 'Introduction to Midwifery Practice' and 'Learning and Teaching in Practice' on the BSc Hons Midwifery program. Provides personal tutoring, dissertation supervision for BSc/post-registration students, and acts as Link Tutor supporting midwifery students and mentors at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust.
Prior Experience: NHS career spanning midwifery practice, unit management, statutory supervision (2004-2007), Public Health England midwifery work (2007-2010), and roles as Senior Matron in gynaecology/early pregnancy services.
Clinical Expertise: Specializes in emergency team management, puerperal evaluation, and public health interventions in maternal care.
