Wen Song is an Assistant Professor at The University of Texas at Austin's Hildebrand Department of Petroleum and Geosystems Engineering, holding the Anadarko Petroleum Corporation Centennial Fellowship. Her research focuses on micro/nanoscale reactive transport in porous geomaterials, with expertise in critical minerals recovery, fluid-rock interactions, and geologic carbon storage. She teaches PGE 383 (Small-Scale Fluid Flow) and PGE 323K (Primary Recovery).
Education: Ph.D. in Energy Resources Engineering (Stanford University, 2019), M.A.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering (University of Toronto, 2014), B.A.Sc. in Engineering Science (University of Toronto, 2012).
Research Interests: Micro/Nanofluidics for energy materials recovery, CO2 sequestration, and engineered nanoporous materials. Her lab develops operando visualization platforms to study fluid-solid interactions. Key areas include rare earth element recovery from coal fly ash, capillarity-driven hydrate film formation, and microbial carbonate precipitation.
- Recent Awards: NSF CAREER (2022–2027), ACS PRF DNI (2020–2022), SPE Regional Reservoir Award (2025).
Lab and Team: The Song Lab emphasizes educating students in sustainable energy engineering, with a focus on low-impact energy resource development. Current projects address lithium recovery from produced waters and geologic hydrogen storage.
