Dr. Wen-Ching Chuang is an Assistant Teaching Professor in the School of Geographical Sciences and Urban Planning at Arizona State University (ASU), affiliated with the SPARC Spatial Analysis Research Center. She holds a Ph.D. in Sustainability from ASU, a Master of Public Policy from the University of Michigan, and an M.A. in Journalism from National Taiwan University. Her work integrates geospatial analysis to study social-ecological resilience, focusing on adaptive capacity, environmental inequality, and disaster resilience in urban systems. She teaches undergraduate and graduate GIS courses, including Geographic Information Science I-III, Cartography, and Pro-Seminar.
Dr. Chuang’s research examines human vulnerability to environmental hazards, emphasizing the role of green infrastructure and ecosystem-based strategies. She has conducted studies on coastal governance, hurricane impacts, and urban heat vulnerability, with a focus on policy implications. Prior to ASU, she was a Research Fellow at the U.S. EPA’s National Research Laboratory (2016–2019) and taught at Miami University (2019–2022). Her expertise includes GIS, sustainability transformation, and agroecology.
Her publications span disaster management, urban ecology, and climate adaptation, with a consistent emphasis on interdisciplinary approaches. She actively contributes to spatial analysis methodologies for assessing community resilience and policy effectiveness. Teaching responsibilities include foundational GIS courses, reflecting her commitment to bridging academic research with practical skills development.
