Weixu Lu is an Assistant Professor in Communication Studies at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. He holds a Ph.D. in Communication (Rutgers University, 2019) and M.A. and B.A. in Sociology from East China Normal University. His research focuses on social media, mobile media, and digital media use in complex social environments, with additional interests in AI in communication education and accessibility for cochlear implant users in digital learning.
Lu’s recent publications include studies on smartphone-mediated urban engagement (Mobile Media & Communication, 2023), digital learning tools like Slack for synchronous education (Communication Teacher, 2022), and collaborative research on accessibility in online videos. He has presented at the 75th International Communication Association Annual Conference (2024) and contributed to interdisciplinary initiatives such as the Hear, Here La Crosse oral history project. His teaching portfolio spans courses on media society, emerging media technology, and AI in communication, alongside prior roles as a Part-time Lecturer at Rutgers University (2016–2019).
Lu collaborates with researchers across psychology and education, emphasizing the intersection of technology and human interaction. His work addresses both theoretical and applied challenges, including stress from digital media and the social dynamics of networked spaces.
