Weiqian Xia serves as a project researcher at Södertörn University's Department of Social Work, leading research on the 'Leavers and stayers' project examining Finnish migrant life trajectories in Sweden since the 1970s. She maintains dual institutional engagement through affiliation with the DemSwed collaborative project between Stockholm University and Åbo Akademi University.
Her academic foundation includes a PhD in Sociology from Stockholm University, where her dissertation analyzed religion's complex relationship with political behavior in secularizing European contexts through institutional and conflict dimensions.
Xia's research integrates migration studies, demographic analysis, and sociology of religion using Nordic register data. She investigates how migration shapes socio-economic outcomes across generations while exploring connections between ethnolinguistic identity and religious affiliation in Finland's minority populations. Her methodological approach emphasizes longitudinal quantitative analysis of national datasets to uncover societal transformation patterns.
Currently funded through two major research projects, Xia operates within collaborative grant frameworks without indications of independent laboratory leadership. The 'Leavers and stayers' project combines Swedish-Finnish register data at Södertörn University, while the DemSwed initiative examines demographic shifts among Finland's Swedish-speaking communities. No student supervision activities are documented in her current research profile.
