Weiping WU is a Professor of Urban Planning and Director of the M.S. Urban Planning Programme at Columbia University's Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation. She holds additional faculty appointments at the Weatherhead East Asian Institute and the Columbia Population Research Centre. Her research focuses on urban dynamics in developing nations, particularly China, with expertise in migration, housing, and infrastructure. She has authored eight books, including The SAGE Handbook of Contemporary China and The Chinese City. She previously served as President of the Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning and editor of the Journal of Planning Education and Research.
Her consulting experience includes work with the World Bank, Ford Foundation, and Lincoln Institute of Land Policy. Research interests emphasize global urbanization trends, spatial inequality, and governance challenges in rapidly urbanizing regions. She contributes to interdisciplinary discussions on urban sustainability and policy frameworks for equitable development.
