Dr Wei Wen Wong is a Research Fellow at the School of Chemistry, Monash University, specializing in environmental biogeochemistry and microbial ecology. His work focuses on understanding nutrient cycling, greenhouse gas emissions, and microbial processes in coastal and aquatic ecosystems. He leads and contributes to several research projects funded by national and institutional grants, including studies on stormwater contaminants, permeable sediment dynamics, and antimicrobial resistance genes in environmental sediments. His research aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to clean water and climate action.
Key projects include investigating chemical contaminants in stormwater, coastal permeable sediments as greenhouse gas sources, and developing permeable reactive barriers using drift algae. He collaborates with institutions like DEECA and international researchers to address environmental challenges.
Wei Wen’s research outputs span 27 peer-reviewed articles and preprints, emphasizing topics like nitrous oxide production, microbial metabolic adaptations, and nitrogen isotopic tracing. He actively supervises PhD students and engages in interdisciplinary projects to advance sustainable environmental solutions.
