Dr. Wei Wei is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Michigan Technological University, where she joined in August 2024. Previously, she held the same rank at Wichita State University's Department of Mechanical Engineering. She earned her Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from Michigan Tech (2017) and a B.S. from East China University of Science and Technology (2012). Her research focuses on advanced materials design, additive manufacturing, renewable energy systems, nanotechnology, and composite materials mechanics.
Dr. Wei’s work bridges materials science and sustainable engineering, emphasizing applications in clean energy and environmental sustainability. Key research themes include photocatalytic hydrogen generation, bio-inspired material synthesis, and hierarchical material architectures. Her interdisciplinary approach integrates computational modeling, experimental fabrication, and advanced characterization techniques to innovate in energy storage/conversion and eco-friendly manufacturing.
Her recent publications highlight advancements in genomic studies of plant systems (e.g., Populus species, Salvia miltiorrhiza), exploring gene regulatory networks, epigenetic mechanisms, and metabolic pathways critical to biomass utilization and stress resilience. Methodological contributions include developing predictive models (e.g., TGPred) for gene regulation and integrating machine learning in biomarker discovery.
Currently affiliated with the Great Lakes Research Center (GLRC), Dr. Wei collaborates on projects addressing climate-resilient materials and sustainable industrial practices. She actively contributes to academic discourse through peer-reviewed journals and editorial roles.
