Wei Wang is a Distinguished Professor of Finance at Queen's University's Smith School of Business, where he also serves as Associate Dean of Professional Graduate Programs. He founded the Queen’s Master of Finance–Beijing program in collaboration with Renmin University of China. His research focuses on corporate restructuring, bankruptcy, and financial regulation, with emphasis on distressed investing and leveraged finance. He has published in top journals like the Journal of Finance and advised policy initiatives, including contributions to the U.S. Senate’s bankruptcy working group.
Dr. Wang’s academic roles include Vice President of the Financial Management Association (FMA) and Director of the Northern Finance Association. His work bridges academia and practice, with case studies developed for Harvard Business School and a co-authored textbook on corporate financial distress, praised by leading experts such as Darrell Duffie and David Matlin.
His research spans global insolvency trends, corporate governance, and financial innovation. Recent studies examine cross-border capital flows, zombie firms, and implicit government guarantees in China. Over 100 conference presentations and five SSHRC grants underscore his impactful contributions to finance research and education.
In addition to academic leadership, Dr. Wang has industry experience in fintech and commodity trading. His teaching spans elite institutions like Wharton and HKUST, emphasizing practical applications of financial theory.
