Wei Du is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Arkansas' College of Engineering. He joined the university in Fall 2022 after serving as an Assistant Professor at Wilkes University (PA), where he received multiple awards, including the Outstanding New Faculty Award (2019), President’s Award for Excellence in Scholarship (2020), and Outstanding Advisor Award (2022).
- Ph.D. in Electronic Engineering, Institute of Semiconductors, Chinese Academy of Sciences (2008)
- B.Sc. in Physics, School of Physics, Peking University (2003)
His research focuses on Photonics Integrated Circuits, Si Photonics, and Nanotechnology, with particular emphasis on GeSn/SiGeSn semiconductor systems for mid-infrared applications. His work explores quantum well structures, optically pumped lasers, and monolithic integration of infrared components on silicon platforms.
Key article themes include (1) development of SiGeSn/GeSn quantum wells for optoelectronics, (2) optimization of electrically injected GeSn lasers, (3) growth techniques for high-tin-content germanium alloys, and (4) advancements in silicon photonics integration for mid-infrared systems.
Scientific Awards:
- Outstanding New Faculty Award, Wilkes University (2019)
- President’s Award for Excellence in Scholarship, Wilkes University (2020)
- Outstanding Advisor Award, Wilkes University (2022)
Wei Du has held postdoctoral positions at Arizona State University, Shizuoka University (Japan), Washington State University, and the University of Arkansas. He serves on professional committees including the International Conference on Mid-IR Optoelectronics and SPIE Photonics West, while maintaining memberships in IEEE and SPIE organizations.
