Wei Du, MD, is a Professor and Academic Chair of Psychiatry at Drexel University College of Medicine, serving as Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs and Chief Academic Officer at Tower Health. He holds a secondary appointment as Professor of Pharmacology and Physiology at Drexel. His leadership roles include Designated Institutional Official for residency programs, Medical Director of Tower Health's Behavioral Health Service Line, and founder of the Drexel-Janssen Fellowship in Psychiatric Drug Development. Dr. Du’s academic career spans clinical practice, research, and administration, with expertise in psychiatry, addiction medicine, and psychopharmacology.
Education: MS in Physiology and Neuroendocrinology (China Medical University), MD (China Medical University). His research focuses on medical cannabis efficacy, psychiatric drug development, and clinical outcomes. He leads a clinical trial on medical cannabis impact in HIV/PTSD patients and co-directs Drexel’s Medical Cannabis Research Center. Notable awards include the 2023 June Klinghoffer Clinical Educator Award and 2024 Paul Fink Leadership Award.
Research interests emphasize translational psychiatry, with publications on psychopharmacology education, asexuality in clinical practice, and readmission risk factors. He has advised multiple MD/PhD and PhD students. Dr. Du’s professional affiliations include the American College of Psychiatrists, American Psychiatric Association, and leadership roles in Philadelphia Psychiatry Society. His clinical services include psychopharmacology, addiction treatment, and telepsychiatry initiatives.
