Wei Dai is an Assistant Professor of Economics at the Department of Economics, Philosophy, and Political Science, University of British Columbia Okanagan Campus. He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Calgary (2020) and prior degrees from Lakehead University (MA, 2014) and the University of Macau (BSc, 2012). His research focuses on Macroeconomics, Monetary Economics, and Financial Econometrics, employing advanced time-series techniques like Structural VAR and Markov Regime-Switching models. He has published in journals such as Journal of Economic Dynamics and Control and Open Economies Review.
Research emphasizes topics including the welfare cost of inflation, oil price impacts on financial markets, and contestability in technology-driven industries. His work bridges theoretical models with empirical analysis, addressing issues like nonlinear dynamics in monetary policy and market structure. Teaching experience includes courses on Money & Banking, Micro/Macroeconomic Theory, and Econometrics.
Technical expertise includes STATA, MATLAB, and EViews. Professional development includes the Blended Instructional Skills Workshop. Current research projects explore seigniorage dynamics and Divisia monetary aggregates' role in inflation analysis.
