Dr. Wei-Chin Hwang is a tenured Professor of Clinical Psychology at Claremont McKenna College, specializing in mental health disparities, cultural adaptation of psychotherapy, and improving treatment outcomes for ethnic minorities. With over 30 years of experience, he integrates academic research and clinical practice to address race, social problems, and cultural competency in mental health.

His research focuses on culturally adapting cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) for Asian Americans, as seen in his 2016 book Culturally Adapting Psychotherapy for Asian Heritage Populations. He developed the Psychotherapy Adaptation and Modification Framework (PAMF) and the Cultural Influences on Mental Health (CIMH) Model.
Dr. Hwang’s recent publications emphasize mental health equity, cultural responsiveness, and evidence-based interventions. Key trends include dismantling therapy biases, enhancing therapist cultural competency, and addressing acculturative family distancing in Chinese American communities.
