Dr. Wei Cheng is a faculty member at Peking University's Department of Philosophy. Previously, he served as a researcher at Humboldt University's Alexander von Humboldt Professorship program. He holds a PhD in Ancient Philosophy (summa cum laude, 2015) from Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, following a Magister Artium in Philosophy and Classics (2011) from University of Tübingen and a Chinese Literature degree from Peking University.
His research focuses on ancient philosophy, particularly Aristotle and Plato, with expertise in philosophical terminology, emotional theory, and the history of classical philology. His work bridges ancient ethics, metaphysics, and the reception of classical ideas in later traditions. Recent publications explore teleology in Speusippus, pain vocabulary in Aristotle, and Nietzsche's engagement with Plato.
Publications include a monograph on Aristotle's dialogues with predecessors and peer-reviewed articles in Mnemosyne, Philologus, and Journal of Hellenic Studies. He has contributed book reviews to leading journals like The Classical Review and Archiv für Geschichte der Philosophie.
