Wayne I. Lencer, MD is the Longwood Chair in Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School and Director of the Harvard Digestive Disease Center. He leads the Lencer Laboratory at Boston Children's Hospital, focusing on mucosal epithelial cell biology and gastrointestinal pathophysiology. His academic roles include clinical appointments in the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition. Dr. Lencer completed his medical training at Boston University School of Medicine (1977), followed by residency and internship at Boston City Hospital, and a clinical fellowship at Boston Children's Hospital.

- Regulation of intestinal ion transport
- Bacterial toxin entry pathways and host defense mechanisms
- Function of FcRn receptor in immune surveillance
