Wayne Gao

Wayne Gao is a Professor in the Ph.D. Program in Global Health and Health Security at Taipei Medical University (TMU), where he has held academic roles since 2020. He previously served as Associate Professor (2021–2024), and held Project Assistant Research Fellow positions across various TMU programs from 2016 to 2021. His educational background includes a Ph.D. in Public Health, Nutrition, and Food Studies from New York University (2014), an M.S. in Public Health from National Yang Ming University (1994), and a B.S. in Physical Education from Fu Jen Catholic University (1990).

Research interests focus on global health challenges, including lung cancer epidemiology, healthcare policy, chronic disease management, and pandemic impact analysis. Notable projects include studies on lung cancer screening efficacy, occupational health, and BMI-related cardiovascular risks in Asian populations.

Recent articles highlight his work in lung cancer screening strategies in East Asia, occupational sitting time’s cardiovascular impacts, and longitudinal studies on BMI and heart disease in Indonesia. His datasets, such as 'COVID-19 Taiwan Mortality AoIM', explore pandemic-era mortality patterns. He has led or contributed to five major research projects since 2019, addressing health security, big data analytics, and healthcare expenditure.

Grants include TMU’s Higher Education Sprout Project funding and a Ministry of Health and Welfare grant for burden-of-disease research. Collaborations span international institutions like the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) in Geneva. His work integrates epidemiological methods with policy analysis to advance global health outcomes.
