Wayne Batchis is an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science & International Relations at the University of Delaware, and Director of the Legal Studies Program. He holds a PhD from Johns Hopkins University (2009) and a JD from the University of Pennsylvania (1999). His research focuses on American constitutional law, particularly the First Amendment, election law, and the intersection of political parties with constitutional frameworks. He teaches courses on constitutional law, civil liberties, and comparative constitutional law.
Batchis’s scholarly work examines topics such as free speech protections, Supreme Court decisions shaping political parties, and the implications of corporate speech rights. His recent research explores how constitutional law interacts with urban development patterns and suburbanization. Notable publications include analyses of the Citizens United decision, the paradox of corporate speech, and the role of judicial philosophy in shaping legal doctrines.
As Director of Legal Studies, he oversees interdisciplinary initiatives bridging law and political science. His academic contributions emphasize doctrinal analysis and the application of constitutional principles to contemporary issues like electoral systems and urban governance.
