Wayne Anderson is an Associate Professor of Instruction in the Department of Rhetoric at the University of Iowa, where he has taught since 2004. Previously, he held roles as a Graduate Assistant and Visiting Professor in Rhetoric, American Studies, and the Tippie College of Business. He earned a BA in English and History from Luther College (2000), followed by an MA (2005) and PhD (2010) in American Studies from the University of Iowa, focusing on rural Iowa's cultural significance during the Great Depression.
His research explores visual rhetoric, rural Midwest history, and popular culture’s portrayal of American history. He serves as Executive Secretary of the Agricultural History Society and on the Executive Board of the Mid-America American Studies Association. His work bridges historical events, cultural narratives, and agricultural policy, with recent publications addressing the 1980s farm crisis, 1970s farmer protests, and Hollywood’s depiction of rural Iowa in the 1930s.
Anderson’s publications reflect interdisciplinary engagement with agricultural history, visual analysis, and sociocultural dynamics. While no formal grants or awards are listed, his contributions to academic societies highlight his leadership in humanities research. He maintains no listed advising roles but is deeply involved in curriculum development and pedagogical innovation within rhetoric and American studies.
