Dr. Waylon J. Hastings is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Nutrition at Texas A&M University. He earned undergraduate degrees in Biochemistry, Genetics, and Mathematics from Texas A&M University (2013) and a dual-title PhD in Biobehavioral Health and Bioethics from Pennsylvania State University (2020). His research focuses on developing and validating biomarkers of biological age, particularly through telomere length analysis and epigenetic methodologies. He collaborates with high-impact networks like the Telomere Research Network, CALERIE™ Clinical Trial, and COMETS, aiming to improve healthspan through aging interventions.
Research Interests:
- Quantitative measurement of biological aging
- Effects of stress and metabolism on aging biomarkers
- Cross-tissue epigenetic clock analysis
- Caloric restriction as a longevity intervention
Collaborations: Works with global consortia including the CALERIE trial and COMETS, focusing on translational research and clinical validation of aging biomarkers. His work has been featured in Science Daily, the American Council for Science and Health, and the New York Post.
Advising & Grants: No explicitly listed students or grants, though his involvement in large-scale trials suggests collaborative grant-funded projects.
Labs/Teams: Active in the Telomere Research Network and COMETS, leveraging multi-institutional resources for biomarker development.
