Warren Thomas Swenson serves as a Visiting Instructor of Rhetoric at The University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee, while pursuing a Ph.D. in Theology and Religious Studies at the University of Chester. He is additionally ordained as an Episcopal priest, currently holding the position of associate priest within Southeast Tennessee Episcopal Ministry (STEM), a network of congregations spanning the Cumberland Plateau region.
His academic credentials include:
- Master of Divinity from The School of Theology at Sewanee
- Master of Sacred Theology from The School of Theology at Sewanee
Warren's scholarly focus centers on queer theology—examining LGBTQ+ intersections with religious frameworks—homiletics as the art and theory of sermon composition, and American presidential rhetoric analyzing discourse strategies in U.S. political leadership. This tripartite research agenda bridges theological inquiry with rhetorical criticism, particularly exploring how identity, power, and communication converge in religious and political contexts.
Residing in Sewanee with his husband Walker, Warren integrates his academic vocation with pastoral responsibilities, demonstrating a commitment to both intellectual rigor and community-oriented ministry within the Episcopal Church.
