Ward van Zoonen

Ward van Zoonen is an Associate Professor at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU) in the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Department of Communication Science. He also holds roles at the Network Institute and the Communication Choices, Content and Consequences (CCCC) research group. His research focuses on organizational communication, ICT affordances, remote work dynamics, and social media in work contexts. He has authored over 29 publications and received multiple awards, including the Linda L. Putnam Early Career Scholar Award (2022) and the Top Paper Award in Organizational Communication (2022, 2021, 2020, 2018).

• Teaches courses such as Communication Technology in Organizations and Public Relations and Reputation Management.
• Ancillary activities include working as a staff member at the University of Jyväskylä since 2023.

Research Interests:

• Examines how technology influences work dynamics, including remote work, crowdwork, and organizational ICT systems.
• Investigates emotional and social dimensions of workplace communication, particularly on enterprise social media.
