Wanggi Lim is a Staff Scientist at the Infrared Processing and Analysis Center (IPAC) of the California Institute of Technology, where he supports the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope mission as the Science Support Center's liaison for the Galactic Bulge Time Domain Survey and General Astrophysics Survey committees. He contributes to pipeline development for microlensing data and Roman proposal systems.
Dr. Lim holds a double major in Astronomy and Physics from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and a Ph.D. in Astronomy from the University of Florida. His prior experience includes research at Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute and instrument scientist roles at NASA's SOFIA Science Center.
His research focuses on Galactic massive star formation and interstellar dust properties in extreme environments. He investigates connections between planetary system formation and cosmological processes through dust emission studies, with implications for understanding Galactic ecology, first-star formation, and supermassive black hole seed mechanisms. His work leverages multi-observatory data including Spitzer, SOFIA, and Herschel.
At IPAC, Dr. Lim collaborates within the Roman Science Support Center team on survey design and data processing systems, operating within Caltech's collaborative research environment that emphasizes mission-critical infrared astronomy advancement.
