Wang Yao

Professor Wang Yao is a Chair Professor in Physics at the University of Hong Kong (HKU), affiliated with the Faculty of Science. He earned his BSc from Peking University (2001) and PhD from the University of California, San Diego (2006), joining HKU in 2008.

His research bridges condensed matter physics, quantum physics, and optical physics, focusing on spin and pseudospin phenomena in 2D quantum materials and their layered structures. His work explores topological effects, moiré superlattices, and valleytronic applications.

Recent research trends highlight studies of twisted heterobilayers, exciton superfluids, topological phase transitions, and spin-orbit coupling in 2D systems. His publications often address quantum control mechanisms and optical interactions in novel materials.
