Wander van Baalen

Wander van Baalen is a Lecturer in the Department of Humanities at the Erasmus School of Social and Behavioural Sciences, Erasmus University Rotterdam, and a postdoctoral researcher at Delft University of Technology. He is affiliated with the Convergence consortium, a collaborative initiative involving Erasmus University Rotterdam, Erasmus MC, and TU Delft, focused on advancing transdisciplinary research and education.

His research lies at the intersection of philosophy, sociology, and educational practice, with a strong emphasis on transdisciplinarity and art-science collaborations. Drawing on feminist science and technology studies and speculative philosophy, his work investigates how knowledge is produced, evaluated, and enacted in higher education contexts. He has contributed to curriculum development and teacher training programs aimed at fostering innovative, integrative learning environments.

His recent publications explore the evolution of art-science practices in academia, the challenges of boundary work, and systemic trends in transdisciplinary education. These works reflect a consistent focus on reimagining dominant epistemologies and institutional structures in response to complex societal issues.

Wander is co-editor of the book This Is Not a Gardening Book: The Cultivation of Transdisciplinary Practices (2023), which further underscores his commitment to cultivating experimental and collaborative knowledge cultures. His research has been published in journals such as SN Social Sciences, Internationales Jahrbuch für philosophische Anthropologie, and Research in Education.

He actively engages in transdisciplinary networks and contributes to the Rotterdam Arts & Sciences Lab, where he supports the development of integrative educational models. His work continues to address power dynamics, public issue formation, and the (e)valuation of knowledge practices in collaborative research settings.
