Wai Tak Yip is an Associate Professor and Department Assistant Chair in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at The University of Oklahoma. His research focuses on materials and physical chemistry, particularly sensor development, solar energy harvesting, and single-molecule photophysics. He holds a B.S. from the University of Hong Kong (1989) and a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago (1996), followed by postdoctoral training at the University of Minnesota (1996–2000).
His research explores guest-host interactions in silica sol-gel matrices to optimize biosensor performance and employs single-molecule spectroscopy to study molecular mobility and photophysics. Another key area involves developing high-optical-density materials for solar energy systems using cucurbit[7]uril (CB7) to suppress exciton annihilation via fluorescence-based techniques. His office is located in SLSRC 3060, Norman, OK.
