Dr. W. Jason Stegemoller is an Associate Professor of English as a Second Language (ESL) and Bilingual Education at National Louis University's National College of Education. He serves as Director of the Linguistic Diversity & Equity Major in the Ed.D. Teaching & Learning Program and teaches courses such as CIL 500 Foundations of ESL and Bilingual Education, CIL 501 Introduction to Linguistics for TESOL, and EDL 630 Understanding and Using Educational Research.
- Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction, Second Language Acquisition and Teacher Education (SLATE), University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
- M.A. in Teaching English as a Second Language, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
- B.A. in Psychology/Linguistics, Indiana University
His research investigates how linguistic contexts and prior experiences shape language practices among students and educators. Key projects include creating collaborative tools for educators of English learners, developing strategies for SLIFE students, and analyzing bilingual practices in mainstream classrooms. He has collaborated on federally funded studies examining cross-linguistic transfer in bilingual children and longitudinal development of secondary English teachers.
Dr. Stegemoller co-directed the ESL STEM Success Grant (ESSG), a 5-year federal initiative to enhance STEM instruction for English learners. His professional memberships span the American Educational Research Association, Association of Teacher Educators, National Association for Bilingual Education, and TESOL (Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages).
