W. David Myers is a Professor of History and Associate Chair for Undergraduate Studies at Fordham University's Department of History. His work bridges early modern religious history, legal systems, and gender studies. He holds a PhD from Yale University's Religious Studies Department (1992), following degrees from Yale and the University of Notre Dame.
Research Focus: Myers is renowned for studies on sacramental confession and early modern European crime. His recent book Death and a Maiden examines a 17th-century infanticide case in northern Germany, exposing systemic injustices against poor women and historical parallels to modern torture practices. He explores religious encounters between Christians, Muslims, Jews, and indigenous groups in early modern Europe, influenced by his border-town upbringing and NYC's diversity.
Awards & Engagement: Recipient of NEH fellowships and a German government award, Myers connects historical scholarship to contemporary issues. He has lectured at the European Parliament on Church-State relations and contributed to public discussions via The Chicago Tribune and Conscience magazine.
