VyVy Young, MD, is a Professor of Clinical Otolaryngology at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), specializing in laryngology and voice disorders. She is affiliated with the Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery and the Voice and Swallowing Center at UCSF. Previously, she held an Associate Professor position at the University of Pittsburgh, serving as Associate Director of the Otolaryngology Residency Program and Assistant Director of Medical Student Education. Dr. Young graduated summa cum laude from the University of Louisville School of Medicine and completed her residency and fellowship at the University of Louisville and University of Pittsburgh, respectively.
Her research focuses on vocal fold paralysis, age-related voice changes, and voice outcomes. She has authored 26 original articles and 4 book chapters, with presentations at over 40 conferences. Awards include the Francis Lejeune Resident Research Award (2008) and recognition as Best Doctors in Pittsburgh (2016–2017). She currently chairs the American Academy of Otolaryngology’s Voice Committee and Women in Otolaryngology Communications Committee.
Dr. Young’s clinical expertise includes vocal fold lesions, swallowing disorders, and laryngeal procedures. She emphasizes patient-reported outcome measures and education, having been honored for her teaching excellence. Her work integrates telemedicine advancements and DEI initiatives in clinical care.
