Γεώργιος Βούρος is a Professor at the Department of Digital Systems, University of Piraeus. He holds a Mathematics degree and a PhD in Artificial Intelligence from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. His career includes roles as Professor at the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Systems Engineering, University of the Aegean (1998-2011), and 5-year tenure as Department Chair (2000-2005). He also served as Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences at the University of the Aegean (2006-2010).
He has led major international research projects including datAcron (2016-2018) and DART (2016-2018), currently directing projects applying Reinforcement Machine Learning to Air Traffic Management. His research focuses on Expert Systems, Ontologies, Knowledge Management, Agents, Multi-Agent Systems, and Reinforcement Learning applications.
Active in academia, he has served as Program Chair/Committee member for conferences like AAMAS, AAAI, IJCAI, ECAI, and organizes specialized workshops. He edits special issues for journals like IJCIS and AICom. With extensive research project management experience (EU/FP7 programs), he has supervised 12 PhD theses and currently advises 3 PhD candidates and 3 postdocs. He leads the Artificial Intelligence Lab at University of Piraeus (http://ai-group.ds.unipi.gr/ai-group/) and co-directs the joint MSc program in Artificial Intelligence with Demokritos Institute.
