معرفی
Volker Mehrmann is a full professor of Mathematics at the Technical University of Berlin. He specializes in numerical mathematics, scientific computing, control theory, and energy-based modeling of complex systems. His work focuses on port-Hamiltonian systems, differential-algebraic equations, and their applications in real-world domains like gas transport and district heating networks.
- Affiliations: Member of Academia Europaea, European Academy of Sciences, and acatech (German Academy of Engineering).
- Leadership Roles: President of the European Mathematical Society (EMS) and former President of GAMM (International Association of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics).
Research Contributions: Mehrmann pioneered energy-based mathematical modeling using dissipative port-Hamiltonian systems, emphasizing robustness under structured perturbations and stability analysis via Lyapunov functions. His interdisciplinary approach integrates PDEs, ODEs, and algebraic equations into unified frameworks.
- Awards: ERC Advanced Grant, SIAM Reid Prize (2018).
- Editorial Roles: Editor-in-Chief of Linear Algebra and its Applications, and editor for multiple journals in numerical analysis.
He holds a habilitation (1987) and PhD (1982) from the University of Bielefeld. Previously, he served as a professor at TU Chemnitz (1993–2000) before moving to TU Berlin in 2000.
