Dimitris Vlassopoulos is a Professor at the University of Crete (Department of Materials Science) and a senior researcher at the Institute of Chemical Engineering Sciences (FORTH). He holds a Diploma in Chemical Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens (1983) and a PhD from Princeton University (1990). His research focuses on molecular rheology, polymer physics, and soft matter science, with particular emphasis on branched/ring polymers, supramolecular assemblies, and nonlinear rheological measurements.
He has held visiting professorships at the University of Delaware, KITP, ESPCI, ETH Zurich, DTU, INSA, and the University catholique Louvain. His editorial roles include European Editor for Rheologica Acta (2006–2011) and Associate Editor for Soft Matter (2015–present).
His awards include the Weissenberg Award (2015), Fellowship in The Society of Rheology (2018), Bingham Medal (2019), and APS Fellow (2019). His work bridges fundamental rheology with industrial applications, leveraging both experimental and theoretical approaches.
Past grants and collaborations are extensive but not detailed here. His lab focuses on advanced rheological techniques and supramolecular polymer systems.
