Vladislava Vladimirova is a Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor at Uppsala University, holding dual appointments in the Department of Cultural Anthropology and Ethnology (Faculty of Humanities) and the Institute for Russian and Eurasian Studies (Faculty of Social Sciences). Her research focuses on the intersection of economy, ethnicity, governance, and environmental relations in subarctic regions, particularly among indigenous communities in the Russian North. She holds a PhD in Cultural Anthropology from Uppsala University and has conducted extensive fieldwork in Russia, Norway, and Siberia.
Her academic career includes postdoctoral fellowships at Tromsø University and the Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology. She has supervised numerous PhD and Master’s students, contributing to research on indigenous rights, political ecology, and sustainability. Vladimirova has received the prestigious Westinska Prize (2009) and led major projects like the EU-funded CARSI and JustNorth initiatives.
Her research interests span governance of natural resources, indigenous activism, and the impacts of militarization and climate change. She teaches courses on political ecology, environmental governance, and Eurasian studies. Vladimirova’s work emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches, bridging anthropology, environmental studies, and policy analysis.
