Vivienne Aldous is a part-time Lecturer in History at the University of Suffolk, affiliated with the School of Social Sciences and Humanities since 2009. Her academic journey includes a BA in English Language with Medieval History from the University of Sheffield, an M.Ar.Ad. in Archive Administration from Liverpool University, and a PhD jointly awarded by UEA and the University of Suffolk (2025) on John Darby, the sixteenth-century Suffolk map-maker.
Her teaching expertise spans undergraduate modules like Researching History and MA courses such as Lives in Motion. Research interests focus on early modern local history, cartography, and medieval/early modern palaeography. She has contributed to publications like My Ancestors were Freemen of the City of London (1999) and Monks Eleigh Manorial Records, 1210–1683 (2022).
Vivienne’s career includes over 20 years as a professional archivist in London, followed by freelance archival work. She actively engages with professional bodies including the Suffolk Records Society and Suffolk Institute of Archaeology and History.
