Vivien Chow is a Senior Lecturer specializing in Construction and Project Management. Her research focuses on sociotechnical systems, particularly how technological tools and processes interact with organizational behavior in construction and corporate environments. Key areas include health and safety protocols, equality/diversity/inclusion (EDI), sustainability, and public engagement strategies for infrastructure projects. She has conducted influential studies on workplace mental health interventions (e.g., cognitive behavioral therapy integration), the efficacy of BIM and VR technologies in occupational safety, and the sociopolitical dimensions of climate resilience in healthcare infrastructure.
Her work bridges technical innovation with human-centric challenges, addressing how organizations can balance productivity goals with ethical responsibilities. Collaborations with the School of Social, Environmental and Health Sciences (SSEHS) explore stress management in high-performing workplaces. Recent projects include analyzing hybrid working’s impact on EDI in construction firms and developing frameworks to engage the public in sustainability initiatives.
Vivien actively promotes interdisciplinary research, encouraging PhD proposals that tackle built environment sustainability and societal adaptation to ecological challenges. Her publications span over 25 peer-reviewed articles, reflecting her commitment to advancing both academic and practical solutions in construction management and organizational studies.
