Viviana Pupeza is a PhD student in the Department of Geography, University of Cambridge, supervised by Prof Alan Lester and Prof Emma Mawdsley. Her research focuses on colonial railway infrastructure projects in African cities (1890–1910) and their role in urban transformations through Black resistance and adaptation.
- Education: MPhil in Architecture and Urban Studies (First class, 2018–2020), Dipl.-Ing. in Architecture (First class, 2007–2013)
- Research: Investigates racialized railway planning in Southern Africa, subverting colonial land development legislation through African urban practices.
- Teaching: Supervises undergraduate modules on globalization and urban geographies (2021–present) and co-organized student trips to Naples (2014).
- External Activities: Member of the Royal Geographical Society, Royal Historical Society, and Postcolonial Studies Association (2018–present).
Scientific Awards: Recipient of the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes Doctoral Scholarship, William Vaughan Lewis Fund, Royal Geographical Society awards, and others.
