Vivian Wenli Lin is an Assistant Professor in Media Arts and Culture at Occidental College, appointed in 2020. She holds a B.A. from UC Berkeley, an M.P.S. from NYU, an M.F.A. from Sandberg Instituut, and a Ph.D. from City University of Hong Kong. Her teaching and research focus on media literacy, participatory methods, and social advocacy.

Research Interests: Vivian explores intersections of representation, gender, migration, and the Asian diaspora through documentary film, video art, interactive installation, and participatory media. She founded Voices of Women Media, which empowers migrant women to author their narratives via visual methods.
Teaching Experience: She has taught at City University of Hong Kong’s School of Creative Media, Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, and Tokyo Christian Woman’s University. At Occidental College, she served as a Visiting Assistant Professor from 2000–2023 and transitioned to a regular Assistant Professor role in 2020.
Global Impact: With over 18 years of experience conducting participatory media workshops globally across Europe, Asia, Africa, and the U.S., her work bridges academic research, community engagement, and artistic practice.
