Vivian Berg is a Professor and research group leader for the Pharmacology and Toxicology Research Group at UiT The Arctic University of Norway, Faculty of Health Sciences. She previously served as the study program leader for the bachelor's degree in bioengineering from 2021 to 2024 and currently works as the coordinator for "Project Portfolio" at the Faculty of Health Sciences in a 50% position.
Her research focuses on environmental toxins, metabolic diseases, and biomarkers in blood, with particular emphasis on the relationship between persistent organic pollutants and type 2 diabetes. She is involved in significant research projects including "Metabolic disturbance and the development of type 2 diabetes mellitus" and "Persistent organic pollutants in the Arctic."
Dr. Berg's scholarly work demonstrates a strong interdisciplinary approach combining environmental science, toxicology, endocrinology, and epidemiology. Her publications consistently analyze longitudinal data from the Tromsø Study, examining how environmental toxin levels change over decades and their relationship to metabolic health outcomes. She has made substantial contributions to understanding how PFAS, PBDEs, and other persistent organic pollutants affect human health, particularly in Arctic populations.
As an educator, she serves as course leader for MBI-2105 Statistics for Laboratory and teaches methodology (MBI-1103), medical biochemistry (MBI-2112), scientific theory (MBI-2108), and professional ethics and interaction (MBI-2110), demonstrating her commitment to bioengineering education.
