Vivek J. Srinivasan, PhD is an Associate Professor jointly appointed in the Department of Ophthalmology and Department of Radiology at NYU Grossman School of Medicine. He leads the Neurophotonics Lab where he develops light-based imaging technologies for biomedical applications.
His research focuses on inventing new photonics tools for in vivo imaging and sensing of the brain and eye. Key technologies include visible light Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) for retinal imaging and interferometric diffuse optics (iDO) for brain monitoring. His lab actively collaborates with clinicians to address critical diagnostic challenges in age-related macular degeneration, Alzheimer's disease, and traumatic brain injury.
Research trends show consistent innovation in non-invasive imaging techniques that translate fundamental optical principles into clinical applications. His work bridges engineering, neuroscience, and ophthalmology with emphasis on translational impact rather than theoretical proofs.

The lab maintains strong clinical partnerships while training next-generation scientists. Former trainees hold competitive positions at institutions including Stanford, Harvard, Purdue, and Carl Zeiss Meditec. Current research includes deep brain microscopy and cerebral blood flow monitoring using novel spectroscopy techniques.
Based at 433 First Avenue, New York, the Neurophotonics Lab operates within NYU Langone's Tech4Health Institute ecosystem, integrating engineering with clinical medicine.
