Vito Moreno is a Professor in Residence in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Connecticut. He joined UConn in 2013 and has held adjunct professor roles. With over 40 years at Pratt & Whitney, he contributed to engine systems like the Geared Turbo Fan and served as Chief Engineer and Executive Technical Assistant to the Vice President of Engineering. He advocates for UConn as a Pratt & Whitney Center of Excellence, driving recruitment and research partnerships.
Dr. Moreno earned his B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Rhode Island (1969), followed by M.S. (1973) and Ph.D. (1985) degrees in Mechanical Engineering from UConn. His work spans materials science, thermomechanical analysis, and engineering education. He pioneered industrially sponsored capstone programs, emphasizing student innovation and industry collaboration. His research at Pratt & Whitney focused on high-temperature materials and engine component durability.
Publications highlight themes in material fatigue, capstone course effectiveness, and self-cleaning systems design. He is a member of Tau Beta Pi, underscoring his academic and professional excellence. His efforts in organizing industry-sponsored courses and managing learning factories at Pratt & Whitney and WPI reflect his commitment to bridging academia and industry.
