Vita Weidenthaler

Vita Weidenthaler holds the position of Professor at the University of Duisburg-Essen, awarded the title of "Extraordinary Professor" in September 2022. She concurrently serves as a Group Leader at the Max-Planck-Institut für Kohlenforschung since 2012, elevated to W2 professorship level in 2024, with prior roles as Senior Scientist at the same institute since 1999 and Scientist positions at Universität Frankfurt (1998–1999) and Universität Bremen (1995–1997).

Her academic foundation includes doctoral studies at Universität Mainz in 1995 under Reinhard X. Fischer and undergraduate education in Geology, Mineralogy, and Crystallography at Universität Würzburg (1984–1991), culminating in her 2015 habilitation on "Modern Powder Diffraction for Crystallographic Studies of Functional Materials" at the University of Duisburg-Essen.

Dr. Weidenthaler's research centers on Powder Diffraction and Surface Spectroscopy, specializing in crystallographic analysis of functional materials through advanced diffraction methodologies. Her interdisciplinary work bridges materials science, mineralogy, and geology to investigate structural properties of complex material systems, with significant applications in advanced materials characterization.

She leads an active research group at the Max-Planck-Institut für Kohlenforschung focused on innovating powder diffraction techniques for surface science challenges, evidenced by international recognition through guest professorships at Shandong University's Taishan College in Jinan, China (2016 and 2017).
