Virginia Murphy is a Lecturer in the Social Theory and Practice Program at the University of Michigan's Residential College, and Faculty Director of the East Quad Garden. She holds a joint appointment with the Program in the Environment. Her work bridges environmental literature, activism, and justice, emphasizing intergenerational challenges faced by marginalized communities.
- Education: MA/PhD in English and American Literature from Georgetown University.
Research focuses on environmental narratives, sustainable agriculture, and community-based food systems. She co-founded the East Quad Garden and chaired the 2019 Community of Food, Society & Justice Conference. Awards include grants for environmental education and recognition for teaching excellence.
Advises student theses on permaculture, urban farming, and environmental justice. Served on key committees including the Residential College Executive Committee and Program in the Environment Advisory Committee.
