Dr. Violette McGaw is a Lecturer in the School of Educational Psychology & Counselling at Monash University's Faculty of Education. She holds dual roles as a psychologist and Board-Approved supervisor with expertise in trauma, neurodiversity, and military veteran mental health. Her work focuses on families affected by trauma, parental mental illness, and stigma reduction through trauma-informed practices in educational and healthcare settings.
Research interests include intergenerational trauma, neurodiversity lifespan issues, and ADHD across family systems. She has led/co-investigated projects like the Independent Evaluation of the Supporting Recovery Pilot and StigmaBeat stigma reduction initiative. She was nominated for the 2021 Mollie Holman Award for her doctoral research on veteran families' lived experiences with PTSD-related challenges.
Teaching commitments include courses on counselling psychology, ethics, grief/trauma counselling, and clinical diagnosis. Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to mental health and well-being.
