Vinicio Manzi is a Full Professor at the Department of Chemical, Life and Environmental Sustainability Sciences, University of Parma. With a career spanning over two decades at the University of Parma, he transitioned from Researcher (2010-2024) to Associate Professor (2014-2024) before achieving his current position. His work focuses on sedimentological and stratigraphic analysis, notably the Messinian salinity crisis.
- Full Professor, University of Parma (2024–present)
- Associate Professor, University of Parma (2014–2024)
- Researcher, University of Parma (2010–2014)
Education
- PhD in Sedimentology, University of Bologna (1998–2001)
- Bachelor’s Degree, University of Bologna (1997)
Research Interests: Manzi specializes in sedimentological and stratigraphic studies of the Messinian salinity crisis, with emphasis on evaporite deposits, gravitational flows, and tectonic-climatic interactions. His work integrates paleomagnetism, isotopic geochemistry, and high-resolution cyclostratigraphy to reconstruct paleoenvironmental changes and orogenic evolution.
Publications & Collaboration: With 78 publications and an h-index of 35, Manzi has co-authored seminal works on the Messinian crisis. His recent articles examine evaporite controls on gas storage, paleoenvironmental stress indicators, and regional syntheses in Albania and the Eastern Mediterranean.
Professional Involvement: Manzi has led international projects like the DREAM I/II Workshops and contributed to major initiatives such as MEDSALT and THALIS. He serves as a scientific reviewer for journals including EPSL, Marine Geology, and Sedimentary Geology.
Teaching & Editorial Roles: He teaches Geological Survey and Regional Geology, while mentoring bachelor’s and doctoral theses. Notably, he edited the 2008 special volume The Messinian salinity crisis revisited-II in Stratigraphy.
