Vincenzo Andrea Riggio is an Associate Professor at the Politecnico di Torino's Department of Environmental, Land and Infrastructure Engineering (DIATI), actively teaching since at least the 2019/20 academic year. He is a member of the Interdepartmental Center Ec-L - Energy Center Lab and leads the Air Water Waste (DIATI) laboratory.
- Key research areas: Anaerobic digestion, Microalgae cultivation, Photobioreactor design, Phytoremediation, Wastewater treatment
His work focuses on carbon dioxide biofixation using microalgae, closed photobioreactors for mass cultivation, and industrial waste valorization. Recent publications emphasize microfiltration for water reuse, LED lighting systems for optimized algae growth, and osmotically-assisted membrane distillation for bioactive compound extraction. His research aligns with UN SDGs for Clean Water, Affordable Energy, Climate Action, and Industry Innovation.
- Scientific awards include multiple patents for:
- Hydrocarbon extraction water purification systems
- Bi-emissive LED photobioreactor lighting
- Honeycomb sealing technology for pressurized cultivation
As Scientific Manager for commercial research projects with companies like Protea Srl and Photo B-Otic Srl, he develops measurement/simulation prototypes for wastewater treatment systems while supervising PhD student Michele Carone's work on next-generation photobioreactors.
