Vincent W. S. Chan is the Joan and Irwin Jacobs Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and of the Artificial Intelligence & Decision Making Sector at the MIT Stephen A. Schwarzman College of Computing. He holds appointments in both the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and the College of Computing, focusing on advanced communications and networking research.
Professor Chan received his advanced degrees from MIT:

- EE (Electrical Engineer) degree (1972)
- Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering (1974)
His research spans optical communications, wireless communications, space communications, and network architecture. He is particularly known for pioneering work in optical networks, satellite networks, and cognitive heterogeneous network management. His current focus includes network resiliency and security, driving innovations in next-generation communication systems.
