David J. Perreault is the Ford Professor of Engineering at MIT's Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS). He joined MIT in 1997 as a Postdoctoral Associate at the Laboratory for Electromagnetic and Electronic Systems, becoming a Research Scientist in 1999 and faculty member in 2001.
- Education: B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Boston University (1989), M.S. and Ph.D. from MIT (1991, 1997).
His research focuses on power electronics design, manufacturing, control, and applications in renewable energy, RF power, inverters, and efficiency optimization. He co-founded Eta Devices (acquired by Nokia) and Eta Wireless (acquired by Murata). He holds IEEE Fellow status and membership in the National Academy of Engineering.
- Awards: Richard M. Bass Award, IEEE Middlebrook Award, IEEE Newell Award, and 16 IEEE Prize Papers.
He authored the textbook Principles of Power Electronics (2nd ed., 2023) and leads MIT's Power Electronics Research Group within the Laboratory for Electromagnetic and Electronic Systems.
