Dr. Vincent T. DeVita Jr. is the Amy and Joseph Perella Professor of Medicine at Yale Cancer Center and Professor of Epidemiology at the Yale School of Public Health. He served as Director of the Yale Cancer Center (1993–2003) and Director of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and National Cancer Program (1980–1988). Previously, he was Physician-in-Chief at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (1988–1993). His pioneering work includes developing the MOPP chemotherapy regimen for Hodgkin’s disease and the CMF regimen for breast cancer. He holds an MD from George Washington University School of Medicine (1961) and has authored over 450 publications. Key roles include editorship of Cancer: Principles & Practice of Oncology and co-authorship of the memoir The Death of Cancer (2015).
Research focuses on oncology, cancer treatment, and epidemiology. Notable honors include the Giants of Cancer Care Visionary Award (2024), World Affairs Council Luminary Award (2018), and ASCO Oncology Luminary (2014). He has contributed to Yale’s Cancer Center leadership and collaborative initiatives in clinical and translational research.
