Professor Vincent McCauley is a Full Member of the College of Science and Engineering at Flinders University and serves as an Adjunct Research Leader at both the Medical Device Research Institute and Flinders Digital Health Research Centre. His academic work bridges engineering and healthcare domains with emphasis on digital technology integration in medical contexts.
McCauley's research program critically examines cybersecurity vulnerabilities in healthcare systems, regulatory challenges for medical software, and implementation barriers for digital health innovations. His investigations span electronic prescription security protocols, Internet of Things (IoT) applications in clinical environments, and standards development for software-based medical devices. This work consistently addresses the tension between technological potential and real-world healthcare delivery constraints.
Analysis of his publications (2014-2021) reveals sustained focus on security frameworks for connected medical devices and regulatory classification systems. His scholarship demonstrates particular expertise in near-field communication for ePrescriptions and risk mitigation strategies for healthcare IoT ecosystems, often highlighting gaps between theoretical solutions and practical healthcare workflows.
McCauley actively contributes to research infrastructure through the Medical Device Research Institute and Flinders Digital Health Research Centre, where he advances initiatives in medical device safety validation and health technology assessment methodologies.
